Sure, it has complex grammar, very long words, and declensions, (Declension means the forms of a word change in some languages according to the gender and number case of the word, nouns have gender in Deutsch and several other languages. For example, a table's pronoun is 'it' in English but in German a table is masculine.) but it is also very similar to English in other ways.
One of the main reasons why German is easy for English speakers is that they have many cognates (words that are very similar in both languages, for eg. Apple is Apfel in German & Noodle in German, is Nudel) which means if you speak English you might find many German words and phrases familiar.
English is a Germanic language, which means that English and German may have common ancestors. There is a long history to it, read it online or don't, we don't need it to learn the language. ;)
